Art Exhibition in Ringstead

Fri 22nd to Monday 25th August. 10am to 5pm

Three resident Ringstead artists are coming together to put on an exhibition at the Ringstead Village Hall, PE36 5JU over the August bank holiday weekend. Individual yet complementary, united in their love of bold forms, colour and texture, these artists have exhibited together on many occasions and will put on a show that will light up the Hall!

The abstract pictures by Helga Joergens are created spontaneously, and they develop in the drawing or painting process. She begins by drawing lines, marks or colours to indicate a composition and as soon as an idea evolves, she follows the direction in which it takes her. She brings into play sweeping strokes in order to achieve a sense of movement and repeated lines to create rhythm.  She also enjoys using strong vibrant colours and applies them in many variations in order to create richness which makes the pictures shimmerHer titles express her associations after completion.

David Lendrum’s paintings are abstract but derived from nature. He is inspired by the sunsets, clouds or flowers near his home. He often works with diluted acrylic paint, staining it directly into the unprimed canvas on the floor, which he then develops with thicker paint as required, after transferring it to the wall. He also paints on smaller primed canvases where the paint is applied in thicker layers using brushes, palette knives and scrapers to create strong textures. Intense, vibrant colours are used to maximum expressive effect in order to create a sense of feelings and mood.

Following her well received exhibition ‘Music in Mind’ last year, Barbara King will this time be focusing on shadows and reflections. “These have always held a fascination for me due to the way they distort and translate the actual, tangible world around us.  By studying and emphasising these ephemeral and transitory patterns I try to bring new and exciting elements to my work giving it in some cases an almost abstract quality.” There will also be a selection of her Norfolk Landscapes and Wildflower paintings paired with poetry from the new volume of poems by Michael King which is currently being published and should be ready in time for the exhibition.
