Paper Lanterns
Inspired by the paper lanterns in the Jazz tent at Swanage. Transcribed in paint in a selection of colours. Painted in oil on board and set in glazed white frames.
Nature
These wonderful old greenhouses at Holkham Hall inspired the first two paintings. Fuchsias tumbled down the walls coming to rest against the cool damp subterranean whitewashed walls. The other was a veritable jungle of vines and orange trumpets!
The other two paintings shown here were inspired by a visit to the art and sculpture exhibition at Delamore House in Devon. Wandering around the grounds I came across this glade. A small copse of rhododendron trees just after the pink and purple petals of the flowers had fallen to the ground. The sun weaving its way through the trees gave highlights to this rich and even carpet.
I have framed them in chunky old gold frames to give them the grandeur they deserve.
